Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Strabismologist 

Robert D. Gross, MD

Robert D. Gross, MD is a Dallas native and attended Highland Park High School and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He received his training in ophthalmology at Northwestern University in Chicago and Boston University in Boston. His fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology was completed at The Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He began his teaching career on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and trained medical students, residents, and fellows at The Children’s Hospital and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Gross is currently Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

Dr. Gross is past chair of the Section on Ophthalmology of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and past president of the Children’s Eye Foundation. He has served as a guest lecturer and visiting professor throughout Europe, Asia and South America and has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers and textbook chapters. He received The American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Ophthalmology Special Recognition Award in 2015, the Senior Honor Award of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus in 2017, has been listed in the D Magazine list of “Best Pediatricians in Dallas” and is listed in Texas Monthly’s list of “Super Doctors. Dr. Gross lives in Dallas with his wife Maya and son Perry.

After much consideration and over 40 years of patient care I have made the difficult decision to retire from practice effective December 31st of this year, with my last scheduled appointments in October.  It has been an honor and pleasure helping in your care, and I very much value and appreciate the trust you have placed in me.
