VisionWalk – The Fight Against Blindness
The staff of Pediatric Ophthalmology joined the fight against blindness by participating in the 7th annual VisionWalk benefitting the Foundation Fighting Blindness. By participating in fun, interoffice games, and through generous donations from our doctors and family members, the POPACAS team was able to meet 100% of their team fundraising goal. All the money raised by teams during the VisionWalk help fund sight saving research and awareness about the 10 million Americans affected by blinding retinal diseases. Why Do Children Need a Vision Screening?
Vision screening in children is time sensitive. Two out of three children under the age of five have not had a recommended vision screening. If a common vision disorder like amblyopia (lazy eye) is not detected and treated before the age of 7, treatment is much less likely to be successful. Contact our pediatric ophthalmologists to learn about a vision screening and obtain educational materials.
To date, See by Three in North Texas has trained 176 medical professionals to better screen children’s vision, provided 5,500 children with a necessary vision screening and coordinated care for these children.
